Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix any flavor
  • 1 container frosting any flavor
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Candy melts or chocolate chips

Instructions

Prepare the Cake:

  • Bake the cake according to the package instructions. Let it cool completely.
  • Crumble the cake into a large bowl.

Create the Cake Ball Mixture:

  • Add frosting to the crumbled cake, a little at a time, and mix until it forms a dough-like consistency.
  • If the mixture is too dry, add more frosting. If it's too wet, add more cake crumbs.

Shape the Cake Balls:

  • Roll the mixture into small, evenly sized balls.

Attach the Sticks:

  • Melt the candy melts or chocolate chips. Dip the tip of a lollipop stick into the melted chocolate and insert it into a cake ball.

Dip and Decorate:

  • Dip each cake ball into the melted chocolate, covering it completely.
  • Tap off any excess chocolate.
  • Decorate with sprinkles, sugar crystals, or other toppings while the chocolate is still wet.

Let Set:

  • Place the cake pops on a wax paper-lined baking sheet to set.

Notes

Cake Mix:
  • You can use any flavor of cake mix you like. However, some flavors, like chocolate or vanilla, are more versatile for decorating.
  • If you don't have a box of cake mix, you can make your own homemade cake. Just be sure to crumble it up thoroughly before mixing with the frosting.
Frosting:
  • You can use any type of frosting you like, but cream cheese frosting is a popular choice for cake pops.
  • If you want to make your own frosting, there are many recipes available online.
  • Make sure the frosting is not too thin or too thick. If it's too thin, it will be difficult to coat the cake balls. If it's too thick, it will be difficult to pipe the frosting.
Cake Balls:
  • The size of the cake balls is up to you. However, smaller cake balls are easier to handle and dip.
  • Roll the cake balls evenly to ensure that they are all the same size.
  • If the cake balls are too soft, chill them in the refrigerator for a few minutes before dipping.
Chocolate:
  • You can use candy melts or chocolate chips for dipping the cake pops.
  • If you are using chocolate chips, you will need to melt them down in a double boiler.
  • Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as this can make it difficult to work with.
Dipping:
  • Dip the cake balls into the melted chocolate one at a time.
  • Tap off any excess chocolate before placing the cake pop on a baking sheet.
  • If you want to add a design to your cake pops, you can use a toothpick to drizzle melted chocolate or sprinkles.
Storage:
  • Cake pops can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • They can also be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
